Saint Kateri Tekakwitha : The Lily at the Foot of the Cross Part 5

Fear not, for I am with thee: turn not aside, for I am thy  God. Isaiah 41:10

Saint Kateri, a flower  among the weeds

Saint Kateri’s Holiness of Life and Persecution by her Village and her fortitude when threatened with death.

Saint Kateri was especially despised by her family for  not doing any servile work on Sunday and other Holy Days of obligation.  At a natural level it does make sense for a man to rest from his labor from time to time, but it takes supernatural Faith for man to worship God and abstain from labor and business on specific days.

2185 On Sundays and other holy days of obligation, the faithful are to refrain from engaging in work or activities that hinder the worship owed to God, the joy proper to the Lord’s Day, the performance of the works of mercy, and the appropriate relaxation of mind and body. Catechism of the Catholic Church

It is unfortunate that this topic is so seldom spoke of or preached on.  I would say that it appears that it has become common for Catholics to do servile work and engage in unnecessary commerce on Sundays.  Let us fight for Gods right to have one day set aside for him! Restoring the Holiness of Sundays  is one of the first steps to restoring Christian culture.
